About Miro from Cairo

My family enjoying the sunset at Ras Sudr, Egypt

My name is Miriam and I live in Cairo, Egypt with my husband, daughter and Labrador! I am passionate about reading and enjoy travelling and writing so much that I started my own family travel blog. My nickname at university was Miro hence the name for my blog – Miro from Cairo.

About me

I like to think of myself as a third culture kid. Born and raised in Kuwait, I went to a British school and literally had friends from all over the world. I moved back to Egypt, my homeland, when I was 14. My parents thought the culture shock would be less if I experienced high school in Egypt first before university. I also lived in England with my family for almost 5 years. That meant I could explore London and other family-friendly destinations in the UK.

One of the main reasons I studied journalism and mass communication at the American University in Cairo was that I wanted an education that would broaden my horizons and expose me to different cultures. After graduating from university, I started my professional career in advertising. Five years later, I joined the marketing team of one of my clients. Given my regional responsibilities, I had the opportunity to travel on lots of business trips to Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

When I moved into marketing communications a few years later, I became obsessed with digital marketing, content development and social media! I actually started Miro from Cairo a few years ago when I was between jobs. This was definitely one of the best decisions I made because it combines all my passions into one!

All of the photos on this blog are taken by me, unless credited otherwise. A talented Egyptian photographer called Fady Fuego took the above photo of my family enjoying the sunset at Ras Sudr, Egypt.
